Chicagoland Players Compete in a Closest-to-the-Pin Show Down at ESPN Zone in Downtown Chicago!

94.7 The Zone and RedEye teamed up with Amstel Light to bring Golden Tee players more opportunities to WIN than ever before! From March 1st - April 21st, 2005, players teed-up at official Chicagoland Amstel Light Golden Tee Open locations to qualify for the head-to-head closest-to-the-pin final. The top players with the most accumulated GTGA League Points were invited to the competition and were given a chance to vie for three HUGE prizes!

There were more ways to qualify for this high-stakes Championship! Top players from special Amstel Light "Beer of the Month" locations and were guaranteed a spot at the Championship along with winners from Amstel and Verizon Closest-to-the-Pin Party Nights held all over the city!

71 qualifiers headed out to ESPN Zone on a sunny May Saturday with hopes of winning the 64-man single elimination closest-to-the-pin tournament. 94.7 The ZONE broadcasted live from the event and Amstel Light was on hand giving out freebies and adding to the excitement for the competitors. Registration began at 11:00 AM and the contest’s emcee, Gary Colabuono of Incredible Technologies, kicked-off the tournament at noon.

Players competed in a closest-to-the-pin format where they received three chances to defeat their competitor in a single elimination bracket. A $50 ESPN Zone gift card was available for any players who aced a hole throughout the competition, while hats, shirts, CDs and more were given away to all the competitors.

What began with thousands of competitors, filtered down to a 64-player bracket and ultimately to Thomas Corcoran, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, as each round he inched his way closer to Los Cabos, Mexico.

It was an exciting 3 months of good times with Amstel Light and competition with Golden Tee Golf! For the second straight year, 94.7 The ZONE put on an outstanding show along with the help of this year’s co-sponsor, RedEye.
