THE RESULTS ARE IN!!

What began May 1st as four-part, five-month contest, with 10 states, thousands of machines, huge prizes and tons of players has reached its finale with only eight competitors and one championship event.

The Gentleman Jack Golden Tee Cup Championship was held September 18th, 2004, at the world famous Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.   The top two competitors throughout four geographical regions qualified to participate in this high-profile Golden Tee event by finishing first or second in their respective Semi-Final Competitions held throughout the summer of 2004.

Gentelman Jack Regional Champions .....................................................................................................

Region 1-
Reid Rafter of West Palm Beach, FL
*Tobin Carter of Orlando, FL

Region 2-
John Clark of Roswell, GA
John Cramer of Marietta, GA

Region 3-
William Lee of New York, NY
Jim “JJ” Johnsen of Meridian, ID

Region 4-
*Joe Connors of Salem, NH
Stuart Fox of New York, NY

*Due to the havoc wreaked by the summer’s hurricane season, Reid Rafter was unable to attend the championship weekend, but was still awarded his prizes.  Joe Connors, Region 4 Champion, was also unable to attend the Lynchburg Championship.  Derek Correia, of Manchester, NH, was Region 4’s next eligible contender and was invited to participate in his absence.

Prior to winning their live Semi-Final Regional Championship, these skilled Golden Tee players spent two tireless months accumulating Eagles and GTGA League Points along with thousands of competitors across the Southern and Eastern states.  By making the cut for the final Championship, each qualifier received a $1,000 travel/entertainment voucher to put towards their Lynchburg trip or save for future use.  A collection of top-dollar prizes were also on the line from Gentleman Jack for all the Championship competitors:

Tennessee’s historic Jack Daniel’s Distillery served as the backdrop for the Golden Tee competition.  Prior to starting the single-elimination contest, the Gentleman Jack finalists were privileged to receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the famed distillery.  An autographed bottle of Gentleman Jack Rare Tennessee Whiskey by the company’s Master Distiller was one of the tour’s special highlights.

With the glamour portion of this unique contest completed at the end of the tour – it was time for competition!  John Cramer came out of the box hot, qualifying with the top seed and receiving a bye through the contest’s final four.

Stuart Fox, Will Lee and Tobin Carter were the first competitors to be eliminated in Round One of the Championship.  New Englander, Derek Correia, eliminated top seeded Cramer during his Round Two bout, while John Clark defeated one of the contest’s initial favorites, Jim “JJ” Johnsen

With a $3,000 Travel Package on the line, as well as statewide pride, Region 2 Champion, John Clark, went on to defeat Region 4’s Cinderella story, Derek Corriea, in a heated Championship match.  Corriea took home a $2,000 Travel Package for his second place efforts, while third place competitors, Johnsen and Cramer, each received $750 Travel Packages.  All other contestants received their choice of a $500 Gentleman Jack Golf Package or authentic Gentleman Jack leather jacket.

From the Part One and Two contestants, the Regional Semi-Final competitors, to the promotional closest-to-the-pin contest contests held throughout the country, Gentleman Jack’s Golden Tee Cup added a new dimension to Golden Tee in the summer of 2004.

Cheers! From a gentleman’s drink and a gentleman’s game!

Region 4 – Boston, Massachusetts

Waterworks Marina Bay in Boston was the final stop on the Gentleman Jack Golden Tee Cup Regional Semi-Final tour.  Golden Tee players from throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut spent over two months qualifying for a spot in the Region 4 Semis which took place on the beautiful shores of Boston Harbor.

54 of New England’s best players showed up early on Saturday, August 7th ready to vie for $1,000, as well as the final two roster spots in the coveted Gentleman Jack Finals in Lynchburg, Tennessee.  Upon their registration, players received a door prize on behalf of Gentleman Jack Rare Tennessee Whiskey as well as raffle tickets for the day’s bonus drawing to be held after the qualifying round.  As in the three prior weeks, no official festivities began until the traditional Gentleman Jack toast could commence the day.

The day’s format followed a 64-man single elimination structure preceded by a one-round, 18 hole qualifier as in the prior events.  The qualifier was played on Oak Hollow with even course conditions for all contestants.

CHAMPIONSHIP EXHIBITION MATCH

New England’s finest put on an outstanding Golden Tee show in Bean Town worthy of wrapping up the Regional Semi-Final eastern coast tour.  The beautiful Saturday afternoon by the harbor was filled with brilliant victories and even some stunning upsets.  The event’s only female competitor, Alicia Anderson, qualified 4th and advanced to the 4th Round where Derek “Openwindow” Correia defeated her to proceed to the Semi-Finals.  Norman Yee, Todd Akerley and Doug Alton were other competitors who played hard to advance through the brackets only to reach their demise in Round 4.  Along with Correia, other players on a tear of perfect Golden Tee up until the Semi-Finals were “Cannibal” Joe Connors, Brian Julian and Stuart FoxConnors defeated Julian –24 to –18 on Oak Hollow to win a $1,000 travel voucher and a spot in the Lynchburg Finals, while Fox advanced over Correia by winning –21 to –11 on Painted Gorge.  With his incredible performance, Fox became the only Gentleman Jack GT Cup competitor to make the Semi-Finals in two separate regional events (D.C. and Boston).

As in all the Regional Semi-Final competitions, the event’s two winners faced-off in a Championship Exhibition Match to determine the region’s top competitor.  Gentleman Jack, Waterworks Marina Bay, and Incredible Technologies all provided top-quality prizes for the match’s winner to take home along with their personal regional bragging rights.  In a tight match, Connors edged Fox –22 to –21 on Ridgewood to be crowned the Gentleman Jack Region 3 Champion.

Region 3 not only provided a ton of Golden Tee competition for its players, fans at the event also shared in the Washington D.C. action throughout the day at McFadden’s.  Besides the power outage debacle that occurred during the Oak Hollow qualifying round, it was a perfect day of quality Golden Tee Golf.

Though 40 players had their shot at the championship spots, the most notable stories of the day followed current Tournament of Champions qualifier, William Lee and Golden Tee National Championship veteran Jim “J.J.” Johnsen.  After earning the top two seeds during the qualifying round, Lee and Johnsen put on a spectacular show of Golden Tee skills as they advanced perfectly through the tough rounds of match play.  Names like Frank Chu, Stuart Fox, Craig Cwiklinski, Thadd Puccia, Elliot Rosen and Dan Liebschutz were just some of the scrappy competitors dogging Lee  and Johnsen  in order to earn the title of Region 3 Champions.

Ultimately, Lee and Johnsen each won $1,000 travel/entertainment vouchers and roster spots in the Lynchburg, Tennessee, Gentleman Jack Final Competition.  Since no day of Golden Tee is complete with two winners, Lee and Johnsen faced-off in a Championship Exhibition match to determine the day’s top competitor.  With bragging rights and prizes provided by Gentleman Jack, McFadden’s and Incredible Technologies on the line, William Lee defeated the GT veteran to top off his day of Golden Tee domination and become the Gentleman Jack Region 3 Champion!

Region 2 – Atlanta, Georgia

Jocks and Jills of Alpharetta, Georgia, hosted the second stop of the Gentleman Jack Golden Tee Cup Regional Semi-Finals.  Players throughout the states of Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina traveled long roads and many hours in hopes of reaching the classy Atlanta suburb by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24th, to wrap-up 2 grueling months of online qualifying.

A total of 54 players sacrificed a beautiful southern-Saturday afternoon and battled in a heated competition hoping to win one of the two coveted spots for the Gentleman Jack Final Competition in Lynchburg, Tennessee.  Players started off their day with a few practice rounds of Golden Tee Golf and a toast of smooth Gentleman Jack Rare Tennessee Whiskey to get warmed up.  As in all of the Gentleman Jack Semi-Finals, the format followed a 64-man single elimination structure preceded by a one-round, 18 hole qualifier.  The qualifier was played on Oak Hollow on the same course setups for all contestants.

CHAMPIONSHIP EXHIBITION MATCH

Region 2 was an exciting event filled to the brim with thrilling victories and stunning upsets.  Top seeded qualifier and 2004 Player of the Year contender, Charles David Long, was the first of the favorites to be eliminated in the contest after losing to long-time Golden Tee player, Dutch Williams, in Round-2 of the contest.  While prominent players such as Wade Kids of Atlanta, GA, Tommy Shive and Ron Files of Memphis, TN, were some of the others who couldn’t stay afloat until the final round, the upset story of the day was centered around current Golden Tee World Champion – and Atlanta resident – Chris Eversole

Up on the big screen television, in front of an excited crowd, the World Champion squared-off with John “J.C.” Clark in Round-4 of the 6-round contest.  One stroke up on Clark going into a par-4 early on the back 9, Eversole put his drive in the water while going for the green. Clark, learning from the champ’s mistake, landed his shot and eagled as Eversole struggled his way to a haunting double bogey.  Clark advanced to compete for the $1,000 travel voucher – and spot in the Lynchburg, TN, Final Competition – against Jody Palmer who was also strongly moving through the field.

On the other half of the bracket sheet, John Cramer and Geoff Walker were also battling for the right to advance to the final round.  The competition’s two “J.C.’s” proved victorious after Cramer and Clark both won in Round-5 of the contest and received a $1,000 travel voucher along with a coveted spot on the 8-man roster in Lynchburg, TN.

The day’s two champions faced-off in a Championship Exhibition match for bragging rights and prizes supplied by Jack Daniels, Jocks and Jills and Incredible Technologies.  After 18 grueling holes, Cramer and Clark went stroke for stroke, highlighted by Cramer’s  dramatic 18th hole chip-in to keep the match even.  A sudden-death tiebreaker was necessary in order to crown a Region 2 champion since the scores were gridlocked after 18.  Continuing on his path of Golden Tee perfection and domination throughout the day, John “J.C.” Clark came out on top to claim the title - as well as the bragging rights - of Region 2 Champion.

Region 1 - Orlando, Florida

Friday’s Front Row in Orlando, Florida, was headquarters for the first regional competition.   72 players from all over the Sunshine State made the pilgrimage to the famed Friday’s restaurant – also home to Golden Tee’s World Championship - to battle for 2 coveted spots in the final competition at the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.

Registration began Saturday, July 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Friday’s Front Row.  Jack Daniels door prizes, friendly wait staff, 16 perfectly groomed Golden Tee machines and a Gentleman Jack toast greeted players as they entered the bar bright and early and prepared to compete.  As in all of the Gentleman Jack Semi-Finals, the format followed a 64-man single elimination structure preceded by a one-round, 18 hole qualifier.
