 March 11th 13th,
2005 was a beautiful sunny weekend in Spokane, Washington, with temperatures
creeping into the mid 70's. Despite the mild weather, eighteen die-hard
Golden Tee enthusiasts convened at the Swinging Doors in Spokane to compete
in the 3rd annual Spokane Golden Tee Tournament. The event kicked off Friday
night with a head-to-head Closest-to-the-Pin contest where $100 went to 1st
place winner, Russ Plue. Bets stacked on a Silver Strike Bowling competition
after the high-stakes CTP contest, where players competed for best hand on
"Vegas Bowling" for the top prize. After a long night of trackball action,
everyone rested up for a big day of Golden Tee Golf.
A three-game qualifier began at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 12th, to seed
the field for the head-to-head double elimination tournament. Tom Massie won
$100 bonus for shooting the days first hole-in-one during his first game.
Final seeding was done around 4:00 and concluded the days official
tournament play. Regardless, players stayed all through the nights competing
on the three Golden Tee LIVE machines which were brought in for the special
occasion. Players commented on how much they were enjoying the new Golden
Tee and several mentioned they have been playing from their player account
for the past week or two. "I haven't spent any money in the past 20 games
due to my winnings credited to my player account" exclaimed Chris Care,
organizer of the Spokane Tournament. "GT LIVE is all I play now, besides
Silver Strike Bowling, which is real fun too."
The double-elimination portion pf the competition began Sunday morning.
While the competition remained friendly, the level of play was very
exciting. The final four competitors came down to friends; Mitch Clark, Jeff
Vordahl, Chris Care and Michael Jaeger.
